Recycling
Our recycling program was created from the Students for Recycling program. The first year we participated, we filled the stock trailer to a little over half with the plastic the schools collected. Rather than taking a half empty trailer to Rapid City, the KHSB board and others decided to fill the trailer with anything the Rapid City MRF would accept. It took us 6 months to fill the trailer the first time but reached the point of being hauled almost weekly. Unfortunately, our recycling effort became so successful that we did not have the financial resources to continue this program. Therefore, the board of Keep Hot Springs Beautiful decided to temporarily discontinue this program effective September 30, 2009.
However, the KHSB Board is happy to announce that we have signed a contract with Keiffer Sanitation and as of June 16, 2011, recycling has once again returned to Hot Springs! Two roll-offs have been placed at the Pamida parking lot for your use. Thank you to Pamida for allowing us this space for our recycling program! One roll-off is for cardboard and newspapers; the other is for glass, steel/tin, and #1 and #2 plastics. Please note that this contract cost KHSB $5000 for one year. This will be an on-going expense so we will need your monetary support to keep this program going.

Aluminum Recycling Trailer
The Keep Hot Springs Beautiful aluminum trailer is painted and in working order so that we can begin collecting aluminum cans once again. We want to say a HUGE Thank You to Lynn's DakotaMart for allowing us to be able to park the trailer in a corner of their parking lot to collect cans. This will give us a more visible and more convenient location for people to drop off their aluminum cans. This program helps us to pay for the contract with Keiffer Sanitation for the roll-offs, so we sincerely hope you will place your aluminum cans in the trailer instead of in the roll-offs at Pamida. Thank you!
